Can you run long-distance with spikes?
There are some athletes who decide to run 800m races in long distance spikes, and some athletes who run a 5k in middle distance spikes. The key is to chose what works for you, what you feel most comfortable in. However, I strongly recommend NOT running a long distance race in sprint spikes.
Are distance spikes worth it?
While running spikes can enhance your performance because of their very minimal weight and aggressive traction, a more cushioned, more stable training shoe can protect you from injury much better.

Can you wear spikes on concrete?
On what surfaces can I use my XC spikes? Cross country spikes are meant for soft surfaces. Grass, turf, dirt, mud, even sand are all in a good spike's capacity. Avoid concrete and rocks if you can but, even then, the most common outcome is for the metal spikes to wear down prematurely.

Do not run any distance on concrete with spikes. It's fine if you're just crossing a cart path or something, but you will not be able to run normally at all. Asphalt is slightly better because at least you'll get some grip, even though the spikes won't sink in much.
Can you run with spikes on gravel?
If you're certain that you won't be running on pavement and your cross-country course includes grass and some gravel or dirt, 3/8-inch pyramid spikes will give you adequate grip and comfort. This is the most common spike used for the bulk of the cross-country season when the ground is not yet muddy.
Can you walk on pavement with golf shoes?
You can wear spiked golf shoes on a concrete area such as a pavement area but it will be extremely uncomfortable and will lead to spike damage. Even plastic or molded rubber spiked golf shoes are not designed for walking on concrete, they are specifically designed to be worn on the golf course.
